Abstract
Results are given from several seasons" trials for the control of Myzus persicae (Sulzer), Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas), Aphis nasturtii Kaltenbach, and Aulacorthum (Myzus) solani (Kaltenbach). The toxicity of DDT was increased by the addition of both pyrethum and toxaphene. Malathion was highly effective against all four aphid species providing the temperature was about 70° F. at time of application. Cool, damp weather almost completely nullified its toxic action. Diazinon® (O,O-diethyl O-(2-isopropyl-4-methyl-6-pyrimidinyl) phosphorothioate, Thiodan ® (6,7,8,9,10,10-hexachloro-1,5,5a,,6,9,9a-hexahydro-6,9-methano-2,4,3-benzodioxathiepin-3-oxide) lindane, phorate, and dimethoate were effective in two or more years" trials. Malathion, Diazinon and Thiodan are currently recommended for control of aphids on potatoes in New Brunswick.
