Abstract
The effect of Tween-type surfactants on the permeability of the rectal membrane was investigated by determining the absorption and apparent rectal clearance of marker drugs, using the in situ perfusion technique in rats. The tested substances were polysorbates 85, 80, 60, 40, 21 and 20, and polyoxyethylene sorbitan 20. When these surfactants were added in aqueous solutions, they did not significantly affect the permeability. These surfactants affected the histological nature of the rectal tissue and enhanced the permeability when they were added in oil.This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
