The Lattice Softening in V3Si

Abstract
Elasticity measurements have been made on several polycrystalline samples which contained various amounts of second phase. The results suggest that the superconducting transition is not directly related to the lattice softening in V3Si. The relationship between the lattice softening and the martensitic transformation is briefly discussed. For all samples, magnetization vs field characteristics at 4.2°K have been measured to investigate the effect of second phase with respect to the lattice softening of the samples.
