Abstract
The “hyperactive child” syndrome presents many problems with respect to diagnosis and research. Several theoretical formulations about the relationship of the CNS to hyperactivity suggest it may be due to a disruption in the cortical excitation-inhibition cycle. However, there is as yet little conclusive evidence linking specific neuronal events to the overt behavior. There is a need to be aware of the complex, multifaceted nature of the etiology of hyperactivity. Keywords
