Abstract
A preliminary biological screening in experimental tumors and in the control of schistosomiasis of thirty-nine species from the brazilian flora is reported. The tests against L–1210 lymphoid and P–388 lymphocytic leukemia in mice and the cytotoxicity assays against Eagle's 9 KB human epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx did not show any significant activities for most of the plant extracts with only one exception which responded positively to the cytotoxic KB tests. No anti-schistosomal protection effect could be observed in all the plant extracts. A chemical spot tests survey indicates the presence and distribution of alkaloids, triterpenes-steroids and phenolic substances in the plants studied. Keywords
