Abstract
The validity of life insurance ownership data obtained by personal interview and mail panel surveys is examined by checking responses against company records. The surveys also are compared with census distributions and with each other. The hypothesis is tested that the interrelationship between items will hold even when items are known to contain bias. The results have implications for personal interview and for mail panel surveys. Keywords
