Postnatal Effects of Control Fluids Administered to Gravid Rats

Abstract
4 groups of pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats received injections during gestation of saline or distilled water either subcutaneously or intraperitoneally. Results from 400 offspring showed that both fluids produced altered behavioral functioning when administered intraperitoneally, but not subcutaneously. It was con-cluded that in pregnant animals subcutaneous injection is to be pre-ferred for control fluids.
