Abstract
The many-body perturbation theory of Brueckner and Goldstone is used to calculate the correlation energy of the neutral argon atom. The result is -0.685 a. u. Three-body effects among electrons in the outer shells are examined in detail, and their contribution to the correlation energy is 0.0553 a. u. Estimates are given for four-body and higher-order terms. Keywords
