Oral Cysts Containing Gastric or Intestinal Mucosa: An Unusual Embryological Accident or Heterotopia

Abstract
Analysis of 14 published cases of oral cysts that contained gastric or intestinal mucosa together with description of a new case demonstrate that 13 of 15 patients were males. The cyst was manifested during the first year of life in nine cases. It was located in the anterior region of the tongue in seven cases, in the posterior part of the tongue in three cases, in the oral floor in three cases, and adjacent to the submandibular salivary gland in two cases. The present example was unusual in that the cyst was connected by a tube to the oral floor with, sebaceous glands emptying into the tube.
