Abstract
The mucosal layer of the stomach of frogs was dissected out and mounted in a dual-chambered bath in such a way that the 2 surfaces of the tissue were bathed by separate solns. Isotonic saline bathed the secretory surface and an artificial medium resembling frog''s blood bathed the reverse side. Under these conditions the pH of the isotonic saline soln. gradually fell to 2.55 in 8 expts. Non-gastric membranes or gastric mucosa, if mounted in reverse, failed to form acid. This production of acid in vitro is believed to represent a true secretory process. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
