Abstract
Quantitative estimation of adenosinetriphosphate (A) in the presence of adenylic or inosinic acids requires fractionation of the P compounds. Muscle extracts deproteinized with tri-chloroacetic acid are treated with Ba(OH)2. In both the deproteinized filtrate and the Ba ppt. are determined: preformed H3PO4, easily hydrolyzable P (7 min. at 100[degree] in NHC1), total P, and pentose. Max. yield of pentose is obtained by gentle refluxing for 5 min. in 4.5 N HC1 if the orcinol test is to be used for approximate results. For exact analysis a modified Simonokura method is described.
