Abstract
Testes of unfed nymphal Boophilus annulatus (Say) and B. microplus (Canestrini) are small and undeveloped. They enlarge throughout the nymphal feeding period and contain spermatogonia, early spermatocytes, growth phase spermatocytes, and meiotically active cells prior to ecdysis into adults. After ecdysis, cellular development continues and elongate spermatids occur posteriorly in the testes within 2 days postfeeding in B. annulatus, and within 1 day postfeeding in B. microplus. Both species have 10 or 11 chromosomes, but the sex chromosome of B. annulatus is longer than that of B. microplus. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
