Abstract
Co/Cr bilayer films have been epitaxially grown on MgO (100) and (110) substrates. The Cr (100) and the Co (112̄0) planes are parallel to the MgO (100) substrate plane. The Co layer has a bicrystalline structure which consists of two types of domains with their c-axes lying in-plane and perpendicular to each other. The Cr (211) and the Co (11̄00) planes are parallel to the MgO (110) substrate plane, and a single-crystalline Co layer is obtained with an in-plane c-axis consisting of slightly misoriented subgrains. Both films show azimuthal magnetic anisotropy in the film plane. Keywords
