Abstract
Patients (11) with a clinical diagnosis of bacterial endocarditis [Staphylococcus aureus (5), pneumococcus (1), Micrococcus (1), Streptococcus faecalis (1), viridans group Streptococcus (1), diptheroids (1) and unknown (1)] underwent scintillation scanning of the precordial region 2-7 days after the i.v. administration of 3 mCi of gallium-67 citrate. Seven had positive scans; 3 were confirmed by postmortem imaging at autopsy. Serial imaging scans were frequently negative at 48 h and positive 3-8 days following injection. Uptake was not seen in the region of the myocardium .gtoreq. 48 h after the injection of 15 patients without endocarditis used as controls. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
