Covalent Interaction in the Process of $M^{+}$ -Center Formation

Abstract

The formation of

M

centers out of

α

and

F

centers in LiF is preceded by the formation of

M^{+} = {F_{2}}^{+}

centers. It is shown that the observed activation energy and the pre-exponential factor for the formation of

M^{+}

centers, as well as their total number, can be accounted for by the existence of a covalent bond between the two vacancies.
