Abstract
TOPICAL application of steroid agents in the treatment of chronic ulcerative colitis is effective. Evidence revealed by periodic proctoscopic examinations indicates that hyperelnia and edema are lessened and ulceration disappears. Since there is a direct correlation between the severity anti degree of the disease and the rapidity of improvement, our series of 58 patients was divided into four groups representing variations in the proctoscopic appearance, the severity of the acute process, the degree of chronicity and secondary manifestations° Group I: Hypm'emia, granularity, hemorrhagic mucosa; systemic symptoms minimal (27 patients). Keywords
