Superconductivity and Phonon Softening

Abstract
A new formula is derived which relates changes in electron-phonon coupling strength to shifts in phonon frequencies. Using this formula, the superconducting transition temperature is discussed for bcc transition metals and rock-salt-structure transition-metal carbides.
