Abstract
From a study of B12 retention tests in 207 young and old subjects and previously published data on serum level reduction of B12 with age, and the poor absorption of B12 due to the prevalence of achlorhydria or hypochlorhydria in the aged, plus biochemical criteria of the glutathione content of erythrocytes and the increased ratio of oxidized to reduced dipyridinenucleotide in old rats, the author concludes that the possibility of vitamin B12 deficiency among the aged exists. Keywords
