Titration of aversive thresholds in cats: Escape and avoidance components.

Abstract
Used titration schedules to obtain aversive thresholds from 5 adult female cats. Responses emitted in the presence of the threshold stimuli shifted from predominantly avoidance behavior to predominantly escape behavior with increases in the duration of the time interval separating shock presentations in the schedule. Specifying the behavior evoked by the threshold stimuli refines the utility of titration as a technique for studying the perception of noxious stimuli.
