Herpetic Epithelial Keratitis: a Radioassay Evaluation of the Host’s Humoral and Cellular Responsiveness

Abstract
The immunological status of patients with herpetic epithelial keratitis was studied by radioimmunoassay ([125I]-labeling of antibodies) and the lymphocyte transformation test ([3H]-thymidine incorporation rate). These procedures permitted determination of the immune reactivity of these patients in terms of the serum antibodies, the tear immunoglobulins and the responsiveness of cultures of the peripheral leukocytes to a variety of antigens. These parameters proved valuable for determining the patient’s immunological responsiveness.
