Abstract
Finite element techniques are described for calculating magnetic fields and eddy current distributions in problems with open boundaries. A new matrix recursion algorithm is derived for axisymmetric problems and is applied to the case of a circular coil in free space. Also discussed are open boundary skin effect problems, including an example of three double-channel bus bars. Solutions using the open boundary finite elements are shown to agree closely with classical solutions or with measurements.
