Abstract
Blood samples from 533 herds of swine for slaughter in Sweden raised on feed based on barley from the unusually wet crop of 1987 were analysed for ochratoxin A. The toxin was detected (≥2 ng/ml) in 35% of the samples. This is the highest contamination rate found among the six crops investigated by this method in Sweden. A relationship between ochratoxin A contamination in swine blood and the average moisture content in barley at harvest was seen for the crops of the different years. Keywords
