Free and Protein-Bound Magnesium in Normal Human Plasma Determined by Ultracentrifugation and Ultrafiltration

Abstract
Plasma from 23 normal adults was ultracentrifugated and ultrafiltrated (20° C, pH 7.40). The mean non-protein-bound magnesium concentration was 1.30 and 1.34 meq/1 respectively (difference not significant). The amount of magnesium bound by plasma albumin as determined by ultracentrifugation was 0.89 meq/100 g, exceeding that of magnesium bound by plasma proteins by 0.19 meq/100 g.Keywords
