Abstract
The synthesis of indolepyruvic acid as a material for tryptophan preparation is improved by use of p-toluene sulfonic acid. A procedure for synthesis of L-tryptophan is given which yields a product which can be analyzed as follows C 64.54, H 5.67, N 13.51%, [[alpha]]25D =-30.9[degree] with 20 cm path of 210 mg/24 ml aqueous soln.
