Performance-Based Palliative Care in the Nursing Home: Closing the Gap Between "Knowing" and "Practicing"

Abstract
This study evaluated the impact of an experiential educational model—combining traditional didactic techniques with applied performance-based methods—on changing nursing home staff attitudes and knowledge about palliative care, and effectuating positive changes in practice outcomes such that the delivery of palliative care is moved "upstream" in the disease/treatment trajectory. Two nursing homes participated.
