Effect of Secretin on Insulin Secretion in Man

Abstract
In 27 normal subjects, the effect of secretin on insulin release was determined with 3 doses of this hormone so that the highest dose was almost maximal for pancreatic exocrine bicarbonate secretion. Secretin given alone did not increase insulinemia even at the highest dose, but it potentiated the effect of glucose at a dose that is less than maximal. This result supports the view that secretin may play a role on endocrine pancreas in physiological conditions.
