A convenient reduction of activated olefins by zinc–copper couple

Abstract
Activated olefins of the types Ph2CCXY, R2CCXY, PhRCCXY, and RCHCXY (where X and Y are electronegative substituents or one of them is a hydrogen atom) have been reduced to the corresponding saturated compounds in excellent yields by treatment with zinc–copper couple in boiling methanol.
