Contrary to common opinion some arctic spp., as the arctic tern (Sterna macrura), have periods of quiescence in the perpetual arctic light, although these periods are affected by weather conditions. Other spp., as the fulmar petrel (Fulmarus glacialis), lack these periods and possibly rest only after feeding or when tired.
