Abstract
The daily feeding of 3 additional pounds of grain plus 1.2 g thyroprotein per 100 lb. of body weight for 13 days to 10 dairy cows with an average peak daily production of 48.1 lb. increased milk production 9.9%. The daily feeding of 3 additional pounds of grain without thyroprotein for 13 days to 8 similar dairy cows with an average peak daily production of 41.6 lb. increased milk production 1.1%. An analysis of variance showed that the between-group comparisons were highly significant (P<0.01). Thyroid secretion rate may be a limiting factor in milk secretion at the peak of lactation. Keywords
