Abstract
''Hands on'' practical workshop teaching is a fundamental part of advanced trauma life support training which has now been introduced into the United Kingdom. The use of live large animals, which is standard for the original courses developed in the United States of America, is prohibited in the United Kingdom and, therefore, models for upper airway bypass procedures and thoracic drainage have been developed. Their preparation and use is described, and contrasted with alternatives.
