Abstract
The general formalism of a theory with higher derivatives is developed, starting from the action principle with inclusion of the variations at the boundary. The domain of mechanics is examined first, then that of field theory. In both cases the equations of motion (field) are derived, then conservation laws for known and new magnitudes are established. Keywords
