Abstract
The electrical conductivity in the solar atmosphere is computed from the physical properties of the solar material. It is shown that as a consequence of the high abundance of hydrogen the mean free paths of the free electrons are determined by collisions with neutral hydrogen atoms and not by collisions with the much less abundant ions. Furthermore, for magnetic fields less than about 750 gauss the curvature of the trajectories of the free electrons is small enough for the ordinary Ohm's law to be a good approximation. Keywords
