Home intravenous antibiotic therapy

Abstract
In recent years, home intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapy has been used increasingly to treat a wide range of infections in selected patients. What changes have made this type of therapy possible? What criteria must candidates meet? Which antibiotics are used most often? What are the advantages of home therapy? In this article, Dr Grizzard discusses why home IV antibiotic therapy is a commonsense treatment option in the 1980s.
