Abstract
Utilising data on biomass, mean weight and oxygen consumption, the energy requirements for four genera of larval chironomid populations in Loch Leven have been calculated on a monthly and annual basis. Applying the formula of McNeill and Lawton (1970), estimates for annual production have also been derived. Keywords
