Abstract
Enthalpies of mixing of carbon tetrachloride with some methyl-substituted bezenes have been analysed in terms of Flory's theory of liquid mixtures to obtain theoretical values for the excess volumes of mixing for these systems. Details are given of what is considered to be an improvement in the method for solving the equations of Flory's theory and the results have been compared with values of the experimental excess volumes reported by Rastogi and his co-workers. The results show that the theory is generally successful in predicting values of VE of the correct sign and the same order of magnitude as the experimental value. Keywords
