Abstract
Published case series and cohort comparison studies of patients treated in regions where planned trauma systems are in place compared to regions without trauma systems, or before and after instituting a trauma system, conclude that mortality is reduced after major trauma in patients treated in a trauma system. For optimal care of neurotrauma, neurosurgeons should be involved in the planning and implementation of trauma systems and in support of a system once it is in place. Keywords
