Abstract
Synopsis: The Gars-bheinn sill is intruded into plateau basalts on the southern margin of the Cuillin igneous complex. The sill is composed dominantly of peridotite, but near its top it contains feldspar-rich, pegmatitic layers. Field evidence and mineralogical data suggest that the feldspar-rich layers were emplaced by the injection of fluids into already consolidated peridotite, and that the peridotite and feldspar-rich layers are not cogenetic as was formerly supposed. This has necessitated revision of the intrusive sequence in the southern Cuillin. Keywords
