Abstract
The reactions of acetylene ions with acetylene to produce C4H2+ and C4H3+ were studied using photoionization mass spectrometry from 1090 to 1030 Å. In this wavelength region, acetylene ions are formed with none, one, or two quanta of vibrational energy in ν2, the carbon−carbon stretching mode. The total reaction cross section of C2H2+ was independent of vibrational energy, but the ratio of C4H2+ to C4H3+ formed decreased from 0.48 for v2 = 0 to 0.35 for v2 = 1. These results are consistent with the qualitative trends predicted by a quasiequilibrium theory treatment of the reaction. Keywords
