Abstract
The inherent noise of an ideaf isolator, predicted by Siegman from a simple thermodynamic argument, is verified by examining in detail the behavior of a common two-port isolator configuration, insofar as its sources of noise are concerned. Siegman's conclusion that any ideal isolator is the equivalent of a terminated three-port circulator is vindicated. Keywords
