Abstract
This paper reviews certain features of the epidemiology of infectious hepatitis, illustrating some of them by describing a recent outbreak investigated by the author. It demonstrates that true incidence of the disease is difficult to determine due to subclinical infections, non-specific laboratory tests, varying clinical manifestations, and poor reporting. It emphasizes importance of good personal hygiene and proper disposal of sewage in control of infectious hepatitis. It also illustrates the prophylactic effect of gamma globulin when given prior to prodromal stage of the disease.
