Aggregates of Azotobacter vinelandii cysts

Abstract
Cysts of Azotobacter vinelandii which were examined by transmission and scanning electron microscopy appear to be connected to each other by a common, continuous layer of extra-exinic material. This connecting material is easily destroyed and normally not visualized by commonly used techniques. The presence of an extra-exinic capsular material which binds cysts to each other is reported here for the first time.
