Abstract
The landmark studies on tularemia by Dr Francis have been recognized by designating the causative organism Francisella tularensis rather than Bacterium tularense. A review of his original 1925 article clearly demonstrates the lasting value of critical clinical, epidemiologic, and laboratory studies. Except for expansion of knowledge concerning some aspects of the epidemiology and clinical spectrum and advances in treatment and prevention, the 1925 article is as contemporary as the current literature and textbooks. Keywords
