Abstract
CURRENT recommendations for the treatment of peptic-ulcer disease call for cimetidine to be given with meals and at bedtime1 and for antacids to be taken between meals and at bedtime.2 Thus, these two medications may frequently be taken together at bedtime. In addition, many patients undoubtedly ingest cimetidine and antacids simultaneously during the day for the sake of convenience. Despite this practice, there is little information about whether or not commonly prescribed antacids available in the United States interfere with the absorption of cimetidine.
