Abstract
Thirty years ago most patients with a myocardial infarction were required to remain at rest in bed in a hospital for six weeks. Ten years ago the period of bed rest was three weeks, but six weeks of hospitalization was still common. The article by McNeer and his associates in this issue of the Journal is the most recent in a long series of clinical studies from the United Kingdom and the United States that have resulted in a progressive shortening of the period of hospitalization after myocardial infarction.1 2 3 4 5 It is now clear that certain patients designated as "low risk" . . .
