Spherical Model as an Instance of Eigenvalue Degeneracy

Abstract
It is shown that the free energy of the spherical model can be expressed in terms of the largest eigenvalue of an integral equation. In three dimensions the spectrum of the integral equation becomes degenerate as the critical point is approached from the high‐temperature side, thus heralding the onset of long‐range order.Keywords
