Hydrocarbon complexes of iron, ruthenium, and osmium. Part X. Carbonyl-iron and -ruthenium complexes derived from 6-(trans-prop-1-enyl)fulvene

Abstract
6-(trans-Prop-1-enyl)fulvene reacts with [Fe2(CO)9] or [Ru3(CO)12] to give complexes of composition [M2(CO)5(C9H10)](M = Fe or Ru) in which the organic ligand is η5-cyclopentadienyl-bonded to one metal atom and η5-allyl-bonded to the other. An additional product of the enneacarbonyldi-iron reaction is a complex [Fe2(CO)6(C9H12)] in which the propenyl substituent has become saturated, while the reaction between dodecacarbonyl-triruthenium and 6-(trans-prop-1-enyl)fulvene also produces [Ru2(CO)4(C18H20)], a complex containing two linked molecules of the fulvene.
