Abstract
A short review of concepts and experimental evidence about diffuse phase transitions (DPT) is made. Possible causes, all based on the existence of fluctuations in a temperature interval around the transition, are mentioned. New experimental results in the PLZT system are presented, giving strong evidence for the existence of fluctuations in a large temperature interval around the FE-PE transition. Keywords
