Abstract
A case of midline posterior fossa arachnoidal cyst which was diagnosed by pneumoencephalography is described. The cyst communicated with the lumbar subarachnoid space and was demonstrated as a gas-filled mass containing an air-fluid level. A discussion of the mechanisms by which such cysts may form and remain in intermittent communication with the subarachnoid space and ventricular system is given. It should be borne in mind that such lesions will often present as negative air-filled spaces rather than positive or "solid" shadows when a spinal air injection is done. Keywords
