Abstract
Hydrophilic poly (glycolmethacrylate) Hydron U. S. Trade Mark, National Patent Development Corporation, 375 Park Avenue, New York, N. Y. gels were used as vehicles for selected antibiotics. Polymer vehicles with various antibiotics were prepared and their biological activity tested by sensitivity tests on solid and liquid media by means of reference microbe strains. Polymer vehicles with chosen antibiotics were implanted in rats and the rate of diffusion tested in vivo by removing the vehicles at fixed time intervals and ascertaining the content of the remaining antibiotic in the vehicle. In the clinical part, the favorable results of application of antibiotics saturated gel vehicles in tympanoplastic operations and healing of inflammatory states after middle‐ear operations are described. Keywords
