Nurses' role in the decision-making process

Abstract
Nurses must consider the repercussions of current trends in the health care decision-making process. In the past, doctors made decisions and if a second opinion was required it was sought from another doctor. Control of the decision-making process was believed to distinguish the professional from the lay person and the semi-professional. Doctors guard their right to be accountable and have resisted attempts to relinquish this authority.
